Hembadoon Morenike Peter-Thomas started building her music career in Jos, Plateau State of Nigeria as early as 2002 where she wrote for and sang as part of the Cyrus gospel musical group including crowd favourite “Boi” a hip-hop track. The team enrolled for the Benson & Hedges Road show tour and made it through state, regional and final competition with Hembadoon singing lead in an all-girl band called “Sunrise Band” placing 3rd and winning cash and gift prizes. In 2005, she recorded her first ever single “Odo Aye” as part of the Blackcollar Project, the single rose to No. 1 on the Radio charts in 6 Northern Nigerian states including the Federal Capital of Abuja. It was also adopted as a soundtrack feature on the BBC TV/ Radio series ”Wetin Dey”.
Reviving her musical career in April 2021 after working for over a decade behind the scenes in the music industry for & in teams as Publicist and Copywriter for some of Nigeria’s global acts including Burna Boy, Simi, Ice Prince, Olamide and Asa, her music growth over the years have included singing backup for South African singer Sonti Mndebele - former backing vocalist for award-winning singer Paul Simon, writing classical opera styled ballad theme song "O Heart of Mine” for a feature play titled “Off Key” which showed at the Lagos Theatre Festival in Feb 2019, performing lead and supporting roles for DeClassical Theatre productions such as “OMG The Musical” in June 2021 as Nigerian women activist and politician Hajiya Gambo Sawaba, reprising same for European Union March 8, 2022 IWD Celebration and channeling the legendary Mariam Makeba in “The Lost Chord” as part of celebrations for the Musical Society of Nigeria's (MUSON) 25th anniversary.
Hembadoon has launched her ”LADY” brand following her single of same title with a series of Live Showcases tagged “LADY LIVE” and her Band “The Lady Force” as well as brand items including The Lady T-Shirt, releasing more music and performing on different stages. She is positioning herself to be a global performing singer-songwriter brand out of Africa, with a goal at credibility and longevity.
